Published on April 29, 2025 at 05:37 PM

President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Mr Mark Joseph Carney on the Liberal Party’s victory in the recent Canadian parliamentary elections.

Carney has become the 24th Prime Minister of Canada.

In a message conveyed through his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, the President acknowledged the significance of the hard-fought electoral victory, particularly at a time when Canada requires a leader with substantial experience.

Reflecting briefly, the President noted that Carney is a seasoned economist, having previously served as Governor of the Bank of Canada (2008–2013) and the Bank of England (2013–2020).

President Tinubu expressed hope that Carney’s extensive experience in banking and governance would serve Canada well at this pivotal moment in its history.

He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Canada, particularly in the areas of education, climate change, and migration.

“I look forward to establishing a dynamic and forward-looking partnership with Prime Minister Carney’s government, building on the goodwill and cooperation established under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,”; Tinubu stated through his media aide, Onanuga.
