No compromise on quality – Gov Yusuf warns contractors

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has warned contractors handling state projects that his administration will not tolerate substandard work, regardless of personal relationships or affiliations.

Governor Yusuf delivered the warning on Wednesday, shortly after returning to Kano from Morocco, where he was conferred with the African Governor of the Year award.

Rather than heading directly to the Government House, the Governor made several unscheduled stops to inspect ongoing projects across the city, demonstrating his hands-on leadership style.

Immediately after exiting the airport gate, Governor Yusuf and his entourage inspected the road under construction along the airport axis.

Expressing dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the work, he directed that the road should meet global standards in both structure and aesthetics.

“The road should look smooth and attain to global best practices. There should be green at both sides,”; the Governor stated.

He made it clear that contractors must meet the expectations of his administration, which is anchored on quality, accountability, and excellence.

“I trust this company,”; he said while addressing contractors at the airport roundabout, “but I must stress that I don't tolerate any compromise on quality — contractors must meet standards, regardless of how close you are to me.”;

The Governor proceeded to Lodge Road roundabout, where he instructed that the center of the roundabout be landscaped and beautified, particularly around the street lights.

He emphasized a clear vision for urban beautification and ordered specific environmental enhancements.

“You have to grow trees at six meters interval, and in between should be adorned with beautiful grasses towards the street lights,”; he directed.

He also recommended that a fountain be constructed at the center of the roundabout to enhance its visual appeal.

Governor Yusuf also stopped to inspect a mosque under construction, giving further directives on structural improvements and the layout of the surrounding environment.
