NPFL: Rivers United falter in title race, Heartland extend barren run

Rivers United stumbled in the title race, losing 1-0 to Bayelsa United in a matchday 31 encounter in Yenagoa on Wednesday.

Kehinde Lawal scored the decisive goal in the 13th minute.

Finidi George's side failed to reduce leaders Remo Stars' lead following the result.

The Port Harcourt club sit in second position with 52 points from 31 matches.

In Ilorin, Kwara United returned to winning ways, courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Nasarawa United.

Lawal Abayomi's 64th-minute strike separated both teams on the night.

At the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, Sunshine Stars and Heartland played out a 0-0 draw.

Heartland are now winless in their last eight league outings.

Former champions Kano Pillars and Bendel Insurance also battled to a goalless draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofarmata.
