Nuclear deal: US, Iran to meet in Europe next week

Published on April 26, 2025 at 08:24 PM

The next meeting between the United States and Iran will take place in a European country next week, according to a senior U.S. government official.

The hint followed Saturday's session in Oman's capital city, Muscat, where American and Iranian officials resumed talks on the Islamic Republic's enrichment of uranium.

U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, are now expected to meet on 3 May.

CBS News quoted its source saying Saturday's round of “direct and indirect discussions lasted over four hours,” and that both sides “agreed to meet again in Europe.”

Araghchi told Iranian state television that the negotiations “were much more serious than in the past,” confirming a gradual progress “into deeper and more detailed discussions.”

“It is not the case that all disagreements have been resolved,” the minister added. “Differences still exist both on major issues and on the details.”

Omani Foreign Minister, Badr al-Busaidi, commended the U.S. and Iran for a shared aspiration to reach agreement based on mutual respect and enduring commitments.

In a post on X, al-Busaidi, the mediator since the start of the negotiations, disclosed that core principles, objectives and technical concerns were all addressed.

“Talks will continue next week with a further high level meeting provisionally scheduled for 3 May,” the minister wrote.
