Upcoming JTBC drama “Good Boy”; has shared a peek inside its first script reading!
“Good Boy”; is a comic action drama about young athletes who become police officers through a special recruitment program. Trading their medals for badges, they take on a world full of corruption and cheating.
The script reading for “Good Boy”; took place in March of 2024 at JTBC’s headquarters in Seoul. The session brought together director Shim Na Yeon, writer Lee Dae Il, and a star-studded cast including Park Bo Gum, Kim So Hyun, Oh Jung Se, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae, Tae Won Suk, Seo Hyun Chul, Jung Man Sik, Park Chul Min, Seo Jeong Yeon, and Seo Jae Hee.
Park Bo Gum plays Yoon Dong Joo, a former gold medalist boxer turned rookie police officer in a Special Investigation Team. Portraying a character with a fiery sense of justice beneath his calm charisma, Park Bo Gum brings a powerful energy not previously seen in his past roles. His piercing gaze and commanding voice left a strong impression even during the first reading, raising anticipation for the cathartic journey his character is set to take.
Kim So Hyun stars as Ji Han Na, a former gold medalist in shooting who now serves as a Senior Patrol Officer in the same Special Investigation Team. Showcasing a bold and fearless charm, Kim So Hyun perfectly captures a strong-willed character who charges toward her goals without hesitation, all while concealing a passionate heart behind a cold exterior. Having already proven her skills with bows and swords, Kim So Hyun’s action chops now expand to firearms, making her performance all the more exciting to watch.
Oh Jung Se transforms into villain Min Joo Youngâa customs officer by day and the shadowy figure controlling the city of Inseong by night. With chilling intensity, Oh Jung Se portrayed the duality of his character, proving once again why his portrayal of villains is in a league of its own.
Lee Sang Yi plays Kim Jong Hyun, a former silver medalist fencer and current sergeant in the Special Investigation Team. With both intelligence and strength, Kim Jong Hyun brings a steady presence to the teamâsoft on the outside but tough within.
Meanwhile, Heo Sung Tae takes on the role of Go Man Sik, the team leader and a former bronze medalist in wrestling. With his signature witty and comedic delivery, Heo Sung Tae positions his character as the heart of the group, radiating warmth and humor.
Tae Won Suk joins the cast as Shin Jae Hong, a corporal and former bronze medalist in discus throw. With a strong build and gentle eyes, he portrays a character whose tough exterior belies a soft heart, adding a charming duality that earned enthusiastic reactions on set.
The drama also boasts a stellar supporting cast known for their scene-stealing presence. Seo Hyun Chul plays Hwang Kyung Chul, the head of the police department and a close friend of Go Man Sik. Jung Man Sik portrays Oh Jong Gu, a former national boxing coach and now CEO of J9 Security. Park Chul Min plays Kim Geum Nam, a well-connected informant and pawnshop owner; Seo Jeong Yeon portrays Jung Mi Ja, the owner of a noodle restaurant connected to Dong Joo; and Seo Jae Hee appears as Jin Kyung Sook, Han Na’s mother and an insurance agent.
The production team commented, “From the very first practice, the actors completely embodied their characters. The script reading was alive with energy and a mix of laughter and tension. As these characters race toward justice more valuable than gold medals, their stories will deliver cathartic, feel-good thrills that transcend pain and defeat. Please look forward to it.”;
