Pope Francis, who died on Monday, had posted a message on his X account encouraging Christians as they celebrated this year's Easter on Sunday.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, disclosed that the Catholic pontiff died at 7.35 am in his residence on Easter Monday.
The 88-year-old had been receiving regular treatment from doctors ever since undergoing surgery to have a tumour on his colon removed in September 2021.
He had recently survived a serious bout of double pneumonia.
On April 20, 2025, Francis, on his X account, posted a message about Jesus Christ's victory over death, saying, “Christ is risen.”
“Christ is risen! These words capture the entire meaning of our existence, for we were not made for death but for life,” Francis said.
“I would like us to renew our hope that #peace is possible! From the Holy Sepulchre, the Church of the Resurrection, where this year #Easter is being celebrated by Catholics and Orthodox on the same day, may the light of peace radiate throughout the Holy Land and the entire world.
“In the passion and death of Jesus, God has taken upon Himself all the evil in this world and in His infinite mercy has defeated it. He has uprooted the diabolical pride that poisons the human heart and wreaks violence and corruption on every side.
“Sisters, brothers, in the wonder of our Easter faith, carrying in our hearts every expectation of peace and liberation, we can say: with You, O Lord, everything is new. With You, everything begins again.”
Francis was elected Pope on March 13, 2013, becoming the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church
Meanwhile, earlier on Easter Sunday, and also the release of hostages amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine militant group, Hamas.
