The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abia State Council has called for partnership with the State government to ensure that all ministries, departments and agencies in the State present their mid-term performance score cards to journalists.
This, the NUJ said, would enable Abia public to know the performances of the offices and their managers in the past two years of Governor Alex Otti's administration.
The NUJ, which made the call in Umuahia in a seven-point communique released after its monthly congress held in Umuahia this week, said the call was in line with journalists' fundamental roles of holding leaders accountable.
The communique, which was signed by Chidi Asonye, Chairman and Ikechukwu Onuegbu, Secretary, advised the State government to partner with all security stakeholders to provide security for farmers in the State as new farming season has commenced.
The journalists, who urged the Abia government to step up its security strategies, said that farmers should not be disturbed or distracted in their farms by insecurity, even as as they urged the Abia State government to provide fertilizers and other farm implements to boost food production.
They further commended Governor Alex Otti for accepting to revisit the case of pensions and gratuities of retired workers in the State, saying that the matter had generated controversies among the citizens.
On the plans by Abia State government to recruit additional 4,000 teachers, the Abia NUJ said it would create more employment and ensure quality education.
