A devastating rainstorm on Tuesday destroyed at least 240 houses in Garin Kestu, Atuwo Ward of Shanga Local Government Area, Kebbi State.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, who confirmed the incident, noted that the torrential rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, caused significant damage to properties worth millions of naira.

“We thank God no lives were lost,”; he said.

Governor Nasir Idris expressed sympathy for the affected residents, assuring them of swift government intervention.

Represented by the Chairman of Shanga Local Government, Alhaji Audu Dan Audu, the governor directed an immediate assessment of the damage and promised the provision of relief materials.

“The governor instructed me to visit and assess the extent of the destruction. The state government will respond rapidly with building materials, food items, and other relief supplies to cushion the impact,”; Audu stated during the visit.
