Bizarre new seaside resort to open in the ‘Maldives of Europe’ and it looks like something from Squid Game

Netflix reveal first look at Squid Game series two as terrifying show returns after three years off air

FOR any fans of Squid Game, this could be the holiday destination for you – unless you've seen how the series ends for the contestants.

In Albania, there is a plan to build a series of deep red villas whose design looks exactly like those in the Netflix dystopian thriller.

Designs reveal the Red Sol resort will be built into the cliffs on the Albanian Riviera, which has also been dubbed the ‘European Maldives‘.

The huge development will be in the town of Dhërmi and will consist of 19 beach front villas with a seemingly never-ending amount of geometric staircases and pathways.

Thanks to the striking colour, you will be able to spot this red resort from miles away, but if you thought the inside would be just as colourful, you would be wrong.

In contrast, the insides of the villas are a crisp white.

On the top of the villas will be rooftop pools and gardens that overlook the Ionian Sea.

For fans of Netflix's Squid Game, the resort may look strangely similar, with its minimal detail, bold colours and square staircases.

In the dystopian thriller, a group of contestants find themselves in a large complex where they are tasked with competing in six rounds of South Korean children's games.

The complex they find themselves in has child-like staircases in block colours and almost looks like a game of Tetris.

While the designs for the Red Sol resort have been revealed, it might be a while before you can stay there as it's not even under construction yet.

Strangely, this isn't the only resort to look like Squid Game.

There is another series of block-coloured villas in Alicante that look strikingly similar.

But actually, it's not too much of a coincidence as both resorts use designs by the same man, Ricardo Bofill.

La Muralla Roja, which translates to The Red Wall, is in Calpe, Spain.

Ricardo designed the complex in the 1960s and it was fully constructed by 1973.

The apartments were said to have been the inspiration behind the Squid Game sets.

The La Muralla Roja has outdoor staircases, floors, terraces, and tunnels, with each step providing surreal views of open waters and is surrounded by trees.

It has been painted using red, blue, and pink paint, similar to the maze-like stairway seen in the thriller.

You can book to stay in La Muralla Roja on Airbnb and Booking.com and a stay in a one bedroom apartment will set you back £193 per night.

And it has received good reviews, one guest wrote on Booking.com: “In person it is even more amazing than I could gather from pictures: the place is extremely quiet and has a magical atmosphere at every time of the day and night: a feast for the eyes and the mind”.
