South East benefitting from North East Development Commission — Onuigbo

Published on April 22, 2025 at 06:33 PM

The member representing the South East on the board of the North East Development Commission, NEDC, Sam Onuigbo, has said that the positive impacts of the commission's activities are being felt in the South East and other geopolitical zones of the country.

He stated that insecurity and any other socio-economic challenges confronting any geopolitical zone should be tackled and properly handled before they spread to other areas.

Onuigbo made this statement on Tuesday in Umuahia after receiving members of the World Igbo Youths Assembly, a youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who came to honour him for the projects he attracted to Abia State during his time in the National Assembly.

He noted that the North East Development Commission was established by the federal government to address the devastating effects of the Boko Haram and climate change crises, lamenting that the combined factors have contributed to insecurity in the North East.

“Part of the insecurity we are facing started from the North East and now it has spread. But if we are able to arrest it in one area, it would not come to other areas.

“So, what we are doing in the North East will also impact meaningfully on the people of the South East,” Onuigbo said.

He advised the World Igbo Youth Assembly members to avoid the quest for money and instead work for the overall interest of the Igbo nation, while also thanking President Bola Tinubu for approving funds for the ongoing works on the Umuahia-Ikwuano-Ikot Ekpene Federal Road in Abia.

In his speech, the President-General of the World Igbo Youth Assembly, James Ajuzie, said that his group was crusading for quality governance in Igbo-speaking states, as well as campaigning against inordinate quests for wealth among today’s youth.
