EASTER is all about eggs but the humble cupboard staple has more uses than just for a tasty breakfast.
Rather than discarding shells, there are plenty of ways to put this waste product to good use and save cash.

Try one of these ideasâ.â.â.â
NATURAL DYE: If you fancy hard-boiled eggs for an breakfast, make them special by dyeing the shells before serving â this works especially well on white shells.
Try boiling them with a few generous spoonfuls of turmeric powder for a yellow shell.
Or chop a purple cabbage or some old blueberries for a blue shade. Red onion skins also work.
PEST CONTROL: Sick of slugs and snails nibbling your plants? and sprinkle them around plants to help deter the slimy critters.
Shells are also rich in calcium so this will help fertilise and boost the soil’s mineral content.
SCRUB UP:The abrasive nature of egg shells can also help with stuck-on food.
Crush and add to soapy water and then use a cloth dipped in the solution to scrub pans.
You can also form a homemade body scrub by mixing with coconut oil with ground egg shells.
FOR THE BOARD: If you’re feeling hands-on, try using old egg shells for homemade chalk.
Remove the membrane and grind shells into a fine powder with a pestle and mortar.
Stir one tablespoon of flour with one tablespoon of ground eggshells and a couple of teaspoons of hot water.
Use your hands to roll out sticks slowly adding more water if needed or press into silicone moulds if you are happy to make chalk shapes.
Allow to dry out completely over a couple of days, and your chalk is ready to use.
