Taraba skating champions receive hero’s welcome after international triumph

Published on April 21, 2025 at 05:43 PM

In a heartwarming display of unity and pride, residents of Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, turned out in droves on Monday to welcome home the state’s skating champions following their remarkable performance at an international competition.

The celebratory event, organised to honour the victorious athletes, attracted a lively crowd, including the governor’s Special Senior Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development, two-time African Badminton Champion Jinkam Bulus Ifraimu, and enthusiastic youths from across the state.

Cheers and applause filled the air as the champions arrived, met with heartfelt accolades and recognition for their success on the global stage—an achievement which, DAILY POST noted, continues to shine a spotlight on the growing talent among the state’s youth.

Speaking at the event, Jinkam Bulus Ifraimu expressed immense pride in the athletes and reiterated his commitment to advancing youth development and upgrading sports infrastructure across the state.

“This achievement is not just a moment of pride, but a stepping stone as we prepare for the upcoming National Sports Festival in Ogun State,”; he said, stressing the need for sustained investment in grassroots sports.

The success of the athletes, according to him, reflected a collective vision of progress and empowerment through sports.

Many sports enthusiasts who spoke with DAILY POST expressed hope that the champions’ success would inspire broader participation and increased support for youth initiatives throughout the state and the North-East region at large.
