Tariffs: Days of abusing US over – Trump warns China

Published on April 14, 2025 at 05:33 AM

President Donald Trump of the United States, US, has warned that he won't allow China to continue abusing America on trade.

Trump warned that the days when China and other countries abuse the US over trade are over.

He issued the warning while hinting at the imposition of further trade tariffs.

The US president warned that “nobody is getting off the hook for unfair trade balances.”

The US had excluded smartphones and computers from its import taxes on China, but Trump hinted that it would be short lived because they would be “moving to a different tariff bucket”

This was as China called on Trump to “completely cancel” tariffs, while urging the US to take a “big step to correct its mistakes”

However, Trump said the pause of “reciprocal” tariffs was letting countries “off the hook” for their levies on US imports.

Trump said the electronic goods from China were still subject to the 20% tariffs related to the drug fentanyl, but they were now in “a different tariff bucket”.

Posting on X, Trump wrote: “There was no Tariff ‘exception’ announced on Friday.

“These products are subject to the existing 20% Fentanyl Tariffs, and they are just moving to a different Tariff ‘bucket.’ The Fake News knows this, but refuses to report it. We are taking a look at Semiconductors and the WHOLE ELECTRONICS SUPPLY CHAIN in the upcoming National Security Tariff Investigations.

“What has been exposed is that we need to make products in the United States, and that we will not be held hostage by other countries, especially hostile trading Nations like China, which will do everything within its power to disrespect the American People

“We also cannot let them continue to abuse us on trade, like they have for decades, THOSE DAYS ARE OVER.”

Trump and China have been on a trade war path over tariffs imposition and counter-imposition.
