President Donald Trump of the United States, US, has disclosed that his administration may strike a trade deal with the European Union, EU.
Trump's assurance comes amid the controversy generated over the US tariffs programme, which has led to a trade war with China.
However, Trump said there is a 100 per cent chance that the US will strike a deal with the EU.
Trump made the disclosure during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday at the White House.
A trade deal between the US and the EU would prevent the latter from being hit with Trump’s 20 per cent reciprocal tariff.
When Trump was asked what would happen if no deal was reached between the US and the EU after the 90 days was up, he responded: “Oh there will be a trade deal, 100 percent.”
Also speaking, Meloni said: “I'm sure we can make a deal. And I'm here to help on that. I cannot deal in the name of the European Union.
“My goal will be invite President Trump to pay an official visit to Italy and understand if there's a possibility when he comes to organize also such a meeting with Europe.”
