Teenager killed in Maiduguri gang clash as police arrest suspects

A violent confrontation between rival youth gangs in Maiduguri on April 4, 2025, led to the tragic death of an 18-year-old, identified as Bakura Muhammed.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the Ajari and Tashan Lara neighborhoods.

The situation quickly escalated into a chaotic brawl involving multiple youths.

During the clash, Bakura sustained a fatal stab wound to the stomach. He was rushed by security operatives from the Borno State Police Command to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.

Police sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that seven suspects, aged between 15 and 24, were apprehended in connection with the violence. Those arrested include Ba’abba Kyari (20), Ali Alhaji GoniAli (20), Muhammed Audu (18), Ali Isa (15), Adam Sabir (15), Mohammed Tujja (17), and Usman Kasim (24).

Efforts are ongoing to track down additional gang members who fled the scene during the altercation.

Bakura’s remains were deposited in the hospital morgue for an autopsy before being handed over to his family for burial in line with Islamic customs.
