Four cast members from “The Devil’s Plan: Death Room”; joined Cosmopolitan Korea for a pictorial and interview!
Helmed by PD (producing director) Jung Jong Yeon of “The Genius,”; “The Great Escape,”; and “Girls’ High School Mystery Class,”; “The Devil’s Plan”; is a high-stakes survival game show where contestants from diverse backgrounds live together for seven days and compete in intense competition and mind-bending games to claim the title of the ultimate brain.
Out of the 14 contestants, fourâYoon So Hee, Chuu, Jung Hyun Gyu, and Choi Hyun Joonâreunited to share behind-the-scenes stories from the survival show.
When asked what motivated them to join the show, Chuu revealed, “I’m a huge fan of survival reality shows. ‘The Devil’s Plan’ was a show I really enjoyed watching in its first season. I was curious to see how different it would be to actually experience it compared to just watching it on Netflix. I think it was half curiosity and half a sense of challenge [that motivated me].”;
Yoon So Hee echoed this sentiment, adding, “I was curious to see how far I could go when faced with extreme situations. I decided to join the show to discover sides of myself that even I didn’t know about.”;
Jung Hyun Gyu said he was thrilled when he received the offer, sharing, “While watching the previous season, I often imagined myself being on the show. I felt like I could do pretty well.”;
Meanwhile, Choi Hyun Joon said, “I majored in mathematics, so solving problems has always been part of my daily life. When solving math problems, you can keep at it and persist until you find the correct answer, but this ‘survival brain game’ was different because you have to find the most ideal solution within a limited amount of time. That really appealed to me.”;
Reflecting on the most intense moments of the game, Yoon So Hee confessed, “Everyone was doing their best to survive, so there were a few intense moments. I sometimes thought, ‘Is it really necessary to go this far for a game?’”;
Chuu expanded on the atmosphere of the show, saying, “This season, the space is divided into the prison block and the living block. In the prison block, multiple people are confined at once, and they are placed in direct rivalry with those in the living block. Because of that setting, there’s constant tension and competition, both between individuals and teams. It was really scary.”;
Choi Hyun Joon also shared, “The challenge here was to be the strongest and approach everything with a personal mindset. So I wasn’t worried about how my lowest point would be perceived. We all just played in the most instinctive way, according to the program’s format.”;
When asked who left the most lasting impression on them on the first day, Jung Hyun Gyu picked Lee Se Dol, noting that he was someone who had managed to beat AI. Chuu chose Jung Hyun Gyu, saying, “His gaze wasn’t ordinary. He seemed really smart and sharp.”;
Yoon So Hee picked poker player Seven High, saying, “On the first day, he showed up wearing a baseball jacket. From that casual outfit, I could sense his remarkable confidence.”; Meanwhile, Choi Hyun Joon said, “I would pick Tino, a board game YouTuber. He’s been playing board games his whole life, so I couldn’t help but wonder just how good he must be at games.”;
“The Devil’s Plan: Death Room”; will premiere on May 6, and the cast members’ full pictorial and interview can be found in the May issue of Cosmopolitan Korea.
