THE WHITE Lotus series three is obsessed with their shock value incest scenes but it's to hide a big secret.

Our time at the luxury wellness retreat in Thailand is almost over with only the final episode left to air, but the question is – what is actually happening?

The White Lotus season three trailer: a group of people walking.

Season three started with the usual bang – Zion was in the middle of a mediation exercise when he heard gunshots around the resort.

Worrying about his mother Belinda, he got up and tried to find her but he soon found a body floating by him in the hotel moat.

Then suddenly, we switched to a week before, and a sailboat approached the harbour with a group of rich and entitled strangers and the mystery and intrigue began.

It was a brilliant opening episode – but during the following six episodes the storyline burned out like a damp squib.

Yes, we've had shocking incest storylines and some great little scenes of tension – but season three has lost it's way in terms of overall tension and plot.

Chelsea and Rick's relationship has been fascinating – it appears that she really does love him – but their main storyline has been about Rick getting revenge for his father's death.

Yet when Rick finally tracked down Jim – who killed his father – Rick couldn't kill him or even hit him and instead pushed the old man down in his chair and ran away.

Not much of a pay off for the viewer who expected much more after investing in the story for so long.

Meanwhile, Laurie bedded Aleksei but had to jump out a window when his girlfriend caught them together.

It was a tense moment because he had just asked her for money and she was left walking alone – along a dark dingy street – but nope nothing happened.

Because a taxicab conveniently passed by and she safely jumped in.

And lets not forget Timothy who since stealing a gun has been obsessed with killing himself and his family – but nope nothing has happened – all we saw was the usual sleepy drug induced shell of a man.

And poor frustrated hotel manager Fabian was finally allowed to perform but the camera cut away from him just as he began – we never really found out if he was good or not after waiting so long.

Nothing to see there move on. Why?

And if we go back to the incest story that shocked viewers in episode six, we expected to see some huge drama resulting from that – nope, nothing happened again.

So what is the big secret that season three is hiding behind its shock value scenes?

Let me give you my opinion – there is no depth to the storyline and it's covering up its boring, yawn inducing plot.

Nothing happens – in every single storyline – nothing ever happens.

Nothing happened in previous episodes with the snake bite or the girlfriends hooking up on their wild night either – nothing ever concludes in this style over substance meandering tale.

And unless the final episode weaves a tapestry of threads that ties everything together and makes the last seven weeks worth it – my opinion will stand that the series has lost its way.

As for who dies – my best guess is Rick – he looked too happy and content in last night's episode and surely Jim will send his bodyguards after him – I just hope that poor Gaitok doesn't get in the way.

The White Lotus airs on Sky Atlantic.
