At least three people have been hospitalized after an undetonated Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The explosion occurred on Saturday in Ngomari Community, Buni Yadi, the headquarters of Gujba LGA.

Boko Haram terrorists have a history of using IEDs to carry out attacks in the region, leaving behind unexploded devices that pose risks to residents.

A source in the area revealedto newsmen that the incident happened when a 22-year-old man, while fetching firewood in the bush, discovered live ammunition and four rounds of AK-47 bullets. Driven by curiosity, he attempted to open the ammunition using a hammer, which triggered an explosion.

“Three persons, including the young man, sustained various degrees of injuries,” the source said.

Confirming the incident, the Secretary of the Local Metal Fabricators Association in Gujba, Malam Isyaku Dahiru, said the victims were rushed to Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Buni Yadi, for urgent medical attention.
