Three killed as bandits attack community in Sokoto

Published on April 26, 2025 at 06:59 PM

Armed bandits launched a deadly assault on Illela-Baraya Village in Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto State late on Friday, leaving three people dead after a fierce gunfight.

Intelligence sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that the attackers, arriving in large numbers around 10:00 PM, opened fire indiscriminately, fatally injuring three residents.

Security forces responded swiftly, engaging the bandits in a heavy exchange of gunfire that eventually forced the attackers to retreat without stealing any livestock.

Despite efforts to save them, the victims were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Troops recovered three spent AK-47 cartridges at the scene.

Following the incident, the area was thoroughly searched, and security patrols have been intensified to forestall further attacks.
