Troops overwhelm criminals in Bokkos, establish control — Mutfwang

Published on April 05, 2025 at 02:42 PM

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has lauded the recent military operations in Plateau State aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and restoring peace in troubled communities across the state.

In a statement issued on Friday on Facebook page, the governor praised the “gallant efforts”; of the Nigerian Armed Forces and personnel under Operation SAFE HAVEN, following a series of successful clearance operations that dislodged armed militias from their positions.

According to the statement, troops engaged criminal elements during well-coordinated offensives, overwhelming them and forcing a retreat.

The fleeing assailants reportedly abandoned weapons and motorcycles during the withdrawal, while blood trails discovered during subsequent exploitation of the area indicated likely casualties among the insurgents.

A key operation was conducted on April 3rd in Hurti, a community in Bokkos Local Government Area. Acting on credible intelligence, troops stormed militia camps in the mountainous terrain, engaging them with “superior firepower,”; which led to the militants fleeing in disarray. Arms, ammunition, and additional motorcycles were recovered following a thorough search of the area.

Governor Mutfwang confirmed that troops have since maintained operational control of the region and are actively working to track down the remaining suspects.

“I have been fully briefed on these developments and I express my heartfelt appreciation to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Operation SAFE HAVEN, and all community-based security collaborators for their dedication to the safety and well-being of our people,”; the governor stated.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining support for security agencies in the state, vowing that the government would not relent until lasting peace is restored to every part of Plateau.
