In a swift and coordinated operation, troops of the 3 Division Nigerian Army and Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) successfully rescued 16 kidnapped passengers along the JosâMangu road in Plateau State.
The rescue mission was launched on the night of April 13, 2025, during ongoing operations under Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A. The troops discovered an abandoned vehicle near Mararaban Kantoma in Mangu Local Government Area around 9 p.m. local time, sparking immediate concern for the occupants, who were suspected to have been kidnapped.
Without hesitation, the soldiers launched a search operation in the surrounding bushes. Upon encountering the kidnappers, the criminals opened fire. However, the troops responded with superior firepower, overwhelming the assailants and forcing them to flee, abandoning their victims.
All 16 abducted passengers â including six children â were rescued unharmed. Some of the victims sustained minor injuries during the ordeal and received prompt first aid from the troops before being safely escorted to continue their journey to Jos Metropolis.
Security sources confirmed that the fleeing kidnappers are being pursued, with indications that some may have sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire.
Operation SAFE HAVEN reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of lives and property within its Joint Operations Area. The troops remain vigilant and motivated to prevent criminal elements from operating freely across Plateau State and its environs.
