Truck crushes couple, one other to death in Ondo [PHOTO]

Three persons lost their lives over the weekend in a fatal accident involving a commercial tricycle and a truck in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

The tragic incident occurred at the Itagbanja axis of Oke-Aro, along Idanre Road in Akure South Local Government Area. Among the victims were a couple whose identities had yet to be confirmed at the time of filing this report.

Eyewitnesses attributed the accident to reckless driving by both the tricyclist and the truck driver. Two victims died on the spot, while the third succumbed to injuries en route to the hospital.

The aftermath of the crash sparked tension in the area, as enraged youths and residents attempted to attack the truck driver. However, he fled the scene but later surrendered himself at the ‘B' Division Police Station in Oke-Aro.

Upon learning of his whereabouts, the aggrieved crowd marched to the station, pelting it with stones and demanding justice for the deceased.

The corpses of the victims have been deposited in a mortuary, while the police have launched an investigation into the incident, according to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade.
