Trump confident of negotiating end to Russia, Ukraine war – JD Vance

Published on April 18, 2025 at 03:49 PM

Vice President JD Vance on Friday said President Donald Trump feels optimistic he will ultimately be able to successfully negotiate an end to the Russia versus Ukraine war.

Vance spoke in Rome at a bilateral meeting with Italy Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

“I want to update the prime minister on some of the negotiations between Russia, Ukraine, and also some of the things that have happened even in the past 24 hours,”; Vance said.

“I think we have some interesting things to report on, of course, in private, some negotiations. I won’t prejudge them, but we do feel optimistic that we can hopefully bring this war, this very brutal war, to a close.”;

This is coming just hours after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the Trump administration may “move on”; from trying to end the war between Ukraine and Russia if their efforts prove futile over the next few days.

Russia and Ukraine have been fighting for over three years and both countries have recorded several casualties as of today.

Trump, alongside some European countries have been trying to strike a peace deal to end the conflict between both neighbouring nations.
