President Donald Trump has expressed excitement over reports that the US economy added jobs at a strong pace in March with the unemployment rate ticking slightly higher.
Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics as released Friday indicated that 228,000 new jobs were created last month, exceeding the 140,000 jobs expected by economists.
The data also showed that unemployment rate surged from 4.1% in the previous month to 4.2%.
Reacting, Trump in a post on Truth Social said it was a “great job number, far better than expected”. It is already working. Hang tough, we can't lose,” he added.
Friday's jobs report, however, has been overshadowed by Trump's shocking tariff announcements, which has raised fears the US economy could tip into recession.
DAILY POST recalls that the Department Of Government Efficiency, DOGE, and its leader Elon Musk have pushed for large-scale federal employment cuts, with a wave of terminations for probationary workers.
However, a court ruling put a hold on many of those cuts, and the bulk of those workers remain in legal limbo.
