Trump’s worldwide tariffs will remain in place – US Commerce Secretary Lutnick

Published on April 06, 2025 at 06:44 PM

US President Donald Trump's worldwide tariffs will remain in place.

This was disclosed by US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Sunday.

“There is no postponing,” Lutnick told CBS when discussing Trump's global tariffs.

“They are definitely going to stay in place,” he insisted.

A few days ago, Trump announced a new global tariff regime that was more aggressive than analysts and investors had anticipated.

He imposed varying percentages of tariffs on several countries, including Nigeria, South Africa, Taiwan, China, and others.

Trump's tariffs have so far prompted more than 50 countries to contact the White House to begin trade talks.

However, China has already imposed retaliatory tariffs of 34 per cent on US goods.

The US could avoid reciprocal tariffs from Taiwan, Indonesia, and India, but European Union countries may have a different plan in the coming days.
