UCL: Rio Ferdinand tells Arteta how Arsenal should approach Real Madrid in second leg

Published on April 15, 2025 at 05:36 AM

Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has suggested to Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta on how his team should approach Real Madrid when both sides clash in the Champions League quarter-final second leg tie on Wednesday.

Recall that Arteta's side won 3-0 against Real Madrid in the first leg last week at Emirates.

A brace from Declan Rice and a goal from Mikel Merino gave the Premier League North London club the victory against Carlo Ancelotti's side.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, the former England international advised Arteta to allow his team ‘go toe to toe' against the hosts at Santiago Bernabeu.

“How is Mikel Arteta going to prepare this team to approach this game? I think that is going to be one of the key factors in this game,” Ferdinand said.

“Does he go out there and go, ‘Let’s be defensive, let’s protect, let’s just sit and hold what we’ve got', or does he go, ‘You know what? Let’s take it to them because if we score they have got to get four! They have got to score five to beat us and when have we conceded five?'... that is what I would do.

“I would go out there and go, ‘Listen, let’s go, toe to toe!‘”.

The kick-off time for the match is 8 pm, Nigerian time.
