Ukraine: It’s not my war but I’m working to end it – Trump

Published on April 14, 2025 at 05:37 PM

US President Donald Trump has said the Russia-Ukraine war was not his making, even as he stressed he is doing everything to end it.

Trump termed the war as that of his predecessor, Joe Biden, and accused Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky of colluding with Biden in doing an absolutely horrible job in allowing the travesty to begin.

This comes after Zelensky urged Trump to visit Ukraine before taking any kind of decision on the war.

“Please, before any kind of decisions, any kind of forms of negotiations, come to see people, civilians, warriors, hospitals, churches, children destroyed or dead,”; Zelensky said.

Responding through Truth Social, Trump in caps write, “I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS WAR, BUT AM WORKING DILIGENTLY TO GET THE DEATH AND DESTRUCTION TO STOP.”

According to the US president, if the 2020 presidential election was not rigged, the war would never have happened.

“There were so many ways of preventing it from ever starting. But that is the past. Now we have to get it to STOP, AND FAST. SO SAD,” he added.

The US president, earlier played down Russia's fresh strike on the centre of the Ukrainian city, Sumy, that killed 34 people, including two children, calling it a mistake.

“I think it was terrible, and I was told they made a mistake, but I think it’s a horrible thing. I think the whole war is a horrible thing,”; he said.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin denied any role in the Sumy attack and said the Russian army only hits the military and military-related targets.
