The United States of America on Wednesday mourned the tragic nightclub incident in the Dominican Republic. At least 124 people have been reported dead after the roof of a Dominican Republic nightclub collapsed on Tuesday morning. The cause of the huge collapse at the Jet Set nightclub remains unclear as rescue efforts enter their second day.

Reacting, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a post on X on Wednesday that at least one US citizen and US legal resident were killed in the club roof collapse and that “rescue efforts remain ongoing.”

“Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this devastating event.
“The U.S. stands ready to support our Dominican allies amid this difficult time,” Rubio added on X.

Recall that rescuers raced to find survivors on Tuesday among the rubble of the nightclub roof collapse where many people, including Nelsy Cruz, governor of the northern Monte Cristi province and longtime MLB pitcher Octavio Dotel, died in an early-morning roof collapse.
