American billionaire businessman, Elon Musk made repeated attempts to try to stop his principal, President Donald Trump from continuing with the wave of global tariffs, according to Washington Post.

The tariffs imposed on countries globally have created turmoil in international markets.

However, Musk failed to get the US leader to listen.

According to the report, this has added to the evidence as some observers believe, of a growing rift between the US president and the world’s richest person.

On his emergence as President, Trump appointed Musk to lead the White House’s Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, in efforts to curb federal spending.

The Washington Post cited two sources as saying that Musk had made a number of personal approaches to the US President over the weekend to try to persuade him to reverse the slate of trade tariffs on a vast number of countries, especially the longstanding US allies.

Musk's businesses have also been hit by the effects of the tariffs.

The personal fortune of the US businessman, who is the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, and owner of X, has fallen below $300bn for the first time since last year, according to reports.

This particular move by the Trump’s administration has met a widespread criticism from economists, political opponents and even some members of his Republican party.

Following the announcement, especially the now over 50% tariffs on China, a right-wing libertarian group, funded by the conservative businessmen Leonard Leo and Charles Koch filing a lawsuit against the “illegal”; tariffs.
