US: Trump hails Texas House for passing School Choice Bill

Published on April 17, 2025 at 08:03 PM

US President Donald Trump has hailed Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Dustin Burrows, and other Texas legislators for passing the School Choice Bill.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social on Thursday, said: “Congratulations to my friends, Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, and Speaker Dustin Burrows, along with Texas Legislators, for finally passing school choice, which I strongly endorsed – this is a gigantic Victory for students and parents in the Great State of Texas!

“We will very soon be sending Education back to all the States, where it belongs.

“It is our goal to bring Education in the United States to the highest level, one that it has never attained before.”

Earlier on Thursday, the Texas House of Representatives voted to create one of the largest taxpayer-funded school voucher programmes.

The Texas House approved the plan, part of a push by Trump’s allies to offer up to about $10,000 for private school, home-school, or virtual learning.

The legislation, championed by Abbott, Patrick, and Burrows, creates a system whereby state funds through Education Savings Accounts, ESAs, can be used by parents to pay for private school tuition, homeschooling, among other options.
