US: Trump orders military to take over federal lands along Mexico border

Published on April 12, 2025 at 06:12 AM

President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has authorized the military to occupy and take control of federal land along the southern border.

Trump sent a memo to the Secretary of Defense, Interior, Agriculture, and Homeland Security titled: “Military Mission for Sealing the Southern Border of the United States and Repelling Invasions.”;

The new directive would give jurisdiction of various lands along the border to the US military.

Also, the Secretary of the Interior may make withdrawals, reservations, and restrictions of public lands to provide for the utilization of public lands by the Department of Defense with the new order.

In the memo, Trump said, “Our southern border is under attack from a variety of threats. The complexity of the current situation requires that our military take a more direct role in securing our southern border than in the recent past.”;

Trump noted that he was empowered by the constitution to give the order for the protection and security of the integrity of every part of his country in the manner he deems most efficient, effective and consistent with applicable law.

The memorandum was issued to the Secretaries of Defense, Interior, Agriculture, and Homeland Security.

The Roosevelt Reservation is a 60-foot-wide strip of federal land established in 1907 by President Theodore Roosevelt, spanning roughly 700 miles along the southern border with Mexico.
