VIRGIN Media customers are being offered a free upgrade for their broadband kit that will not only boost speeds but also protect them from hackers.
The firm has started reaching out to households still using its older routers, dishing out a newer one “at no extra cost” instead.

Owners of the following hubs are being approached with an upgrade:
- Hub 1
- Hub 2
- Hub 2 AC
Instead, they are being offered the Hub 4.
“We’re aware you’ve got one of our oldest Hubs, either a Hub 1, Hub 2 or a Hub 2 AC,” a letter sent to customers reads, as seen by ISPreview.
“Although they still work, they no longer receive security updates.
“The UK Government has updated the law about telecommunications networks and keeping you safe online, and we need to offer you a free Hub replacement.
“The good news is, our Hub 4 is more secure, faster and offers improved power consumption.
“And it works brilliantly with the Virgin Media Connect app, so you can easily manage your WiFi network.
“Plus, the self-optimising Intelligent WiFi regularly checks your signal, then picks the least busy connection â giving you fast and reliable WiFi.”
So look out for a letter arriving to your address soon if you have one of the older routers.
