A NATURE lover dubbed the “Bear Grylls” of his town was found naked in a field after freezing to death on a walk, an inquest heard.
Aaron Luke Davies, 31, was found lying in a remote field 800 yards from his clothes four days after he was last seen alive.
An inquest was told the “kind and carefree soul”; would often walk for miles – leading to his nickname as “Llandrindod’s version of Bear Grylls”;.
He set off from a friend's house at around 5am on January 19 as temperatures dropped.
Aaron was found by a farmer four miles outside Llandrindod Wells, Powys, on January 23.
His medical cause of death was given as hypothermia, with toxicology showing he had taken an amphetamine.
Detective Inspector Chrstine Beaton, of Dyfed Powys , said: “We can’t rule out third party involvement or say he wasn’t killed elsewhere and put there, but there’s nothing at all to suggest this is the case.
“The indication from family and associates is that he could walk significant distances. He was described as Llandrindod’s version of Bear Grylls; a loner who often slept rough.”;
The inquest was told Luke suffered with mental health problems after going “downhill” following the of his parents.
Mum Jackie Roper said: “He would often go on hikes alone or with his father, as well as trap animals, light fires and live off the land.”
While Aaron's dad Chris said his son “preferred wandering in the mountains, with no thought for his safety”.
Coroner Graeme Hughes recorded a narrative conclusion at the hearing in Pontypridd, South .
He added: “Mr Davies died from hypothermia, having likely collapsed in a field in extreme cold, while unclothed and under the influence of illicit .”
