War: Europe finally joins Trump’s negotiations for ceasefire between Ukraine, Russia

Published on April 18, 2025 at 05:52 AM

The “E3”; grouping of Britain, France and Germany are now part of the negotiations for a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.

The group would be meeting again in London, United Kingdom next week with their US counterparts after President Donald Trump’s envoys finally met with European foreign ministers over ceasefire efforts.

Europe was initially kept aside from the negotiations with meetings held in Saudi Arabia and other locations with its presence.

French foreign minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, made the revelation on Thursday after France hosted German, British and US foreign ministers, and Trump’s friend Steve Witkoff, as well as a Ukrainian delegation.

He said, “What’s new is that the United States, Ukraine and the Europeans met around the same table.”

A senior adviser to France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, after the talks at the Élysée Palace on Thursday, added, “The E3 are around the table and we’re doing it with a European ambition.

“What’s important is that we have started a process in Paris today that is positive and where the Europeans are associated.”;

The US state department said that Marco Rubio, Trump’s secretary of state, spoke with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.
