Russia has said that it is close to regaining full control of its western Kursk region.

This was after the Russian forces successfully pushed their Ukrainian counterparts from one of their last footholds there.

A video displayed by Russia’s defence ministry, which it said was the recapture of the settlement of Guyevo, shows smoke rising into the air from various buildings.

It also shows a soldier waving the Russian flag from the window of a heavily damaged Orthodox church.

The video also contains footage of Russian troops carrying out house-to-house checks in case any Ukrainian soldiers were hiding.

According to the Guardian UK, Ukraine officials are yet to comment on Russia’s claims.

However, a the Ukrainian general staff said in a statement its planes had struck a complex of hangars and military buildings in the region being used by Russian drone operators and maintenance workers.
