President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine has reminded President Donald Trump of his administration's stance on ceding Crimea to Russia during his first tenure in 2018.
The Ukrainian leader posted a 2018 Crimea Declaration from Mike Pompeo, secretary of state during Donald Trump’s his first term.
During that period, America had said that “The United States rejects Russia’s attempted annexation of Crimea and pledges to maintain this policy until Ukraine’s territorial integrity is restored.”;
Zelenskyy posted the declaration following President Trump's new idea that the US formally recognise Russian control of Crimea.
Trump on Wednesday, for the umpteenth time, scolded Zelenskyy and accused him of dwelling on Crimea.
Trump told reporters that the Ukrainian president's utterances were harming the peace talks and that “nobody is asking Zelenskyy to recognise Crimea”;.
Zelenskyy has maintained that no part of his country would be use to negotiate the end of the over three-year war.
The Ukrainian leader is being back by European leaders who believe that Russia has no business occupying Ukrainian territories.
As efforts are being made to bring the war to an end, France, the United Kingdom and Ukrainian were said to have had a positive discussion on Wednesday.
