Yaya Toure admits Mikel Obi was robbed of 2013 CAF African Player of the Year

Former Ivory Coast midfielder, Yaya Toure, has admitted that ex-Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, should have won the 2013 CAF African Player of the Year.

Toure stated this while appearing as a guest of Mikel Obi's podcast.

The Ivorian took home the prestigious honour that year, but feels Mikel was unfairly overlooked.

Mikel Obi himself has long maintained he was robbed of the 2013 award.

“Were you told you were going to win it before you came? Because I was told the same,”; Mikel Obi asked.

Toure’s replied. “You deserve it, Obi, to be honest.

“The season was perfect... you were instrumental,”; Toure added before he clarified he wasn’t informed of his win beforehand.

Mikel Obi played a crucial role as Nigeria won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and enjoyed a fine campaign in the Premier League too.
