India’s military incursion imminent — Pakistan

Published on April 28, 2025 at 05:23 PM

Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Monday that a military incursion by neighbouring India was imminent.

This follows the deadly militant attack on tourists in Kashmir last week, as tensions surge between the two nuclear-armed nations.

DAILY POST reports that the attack killed 26 people and sparked outrage in Hindu-majority India, along with calls for action against Muslim-majority Pakistan.

India accused Pakistan of supporting militancy in Kashmir, a region both claim and over which they have fought two wars.

“We have reinforced our forces because it is something which is imminent now. So in that situation some strategic decisions have to be taken, so those decisions have been taken,” Defence Minister Asif said.

According to Asif, India's rhetoric was escalating, and Pakistan's military had briefed the government on the possibility of an Indian attack.

He did not, however, provide further details regarding his reasons for believing an incursion was imminent.

India's foreign and defence ministries had not commented on the development at the time of filing this report.

Recall that after the Kashmir attack, India alleged that two suspected militants were Pakistani, an accusation Islamabad has denied, calling instead for a neutral investigation.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Asif stated that Pakistan was on high alert but would only deploy its nuclear weapons if there were a direct threat to its existence.
