INEC Ward Delineation: Apprehend those fomenting trouble – Group urges Nigerian govt

Published on April 27, 2025 at 03:06 PM

The Centre for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade, CHURAC on Sunday urged President Bola Tinubu to apprehend and prosecute those stockpiling weapons to cause inter-ethnic crisis in Warri Federal Constituency.

Chairman Board of Trustees, CHURAC, Alaowei Cleric Ebikonbowei, made the call in a statement in Warri, on Sunday.

The group warned that the Supreme Court-ordered ward delineation exercise carried out by INEC should not be a recipe to foment ethnic crisis by some allegedly aggrieved persons.

Ebikonbowei asked the federal government to act fast to douse the ethnic tension, commending security agents for promptly arresting a USA army gunrunner and his syndicates.

“We demand that the matter should be thoroughly investigated with no stone left unturned and the identified culprits be brought to book in accordance with the laws of the land. Nobody is above the law. No one involved in the proliferation of arms and ammunition to Warri should be treated as a sacred cow.

“Nigeria is a country with equal justice. If we must avert the looming ethnic crisis in Warri being orchestrated by some highly placed persons as evidenced in the recent arrest of arms smugglers and their acolytes, then every suspected person, no matter his or her position in the society, should be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted if found culpable.

“Security agents should act fast to nip in the bud by placing surveillance on ethnic actors who are probably aggrieved by the outcome of INEC Ward delineation exercise thus, want to push willing and uninformed youth into inter-ethnic crisis.”

“Crisis in Warri is a crisis that will affect the economy of the nation, people of goodwill should be on alert to expose those bent on fomenting trouble in the Warri Federal Constituency.
