iPhone owners unlock hidden three-tap setting trick that instantly makes their battery last longer

IPHONE users have uncovered a clever trick to instantly boost their battery.

The feature is intended to substantially improve the overallhealthof your iPhone battery so you can avoid costly upgrades.

iPhones have a simply setting that can help improve battery life

All lithium ion batteries – including the ones inside iPhones – degrade over time.

They chemically age for many reasons: The way you charge your iPhone and even its temperature can make a battery degrade faster.

This means, overtime, they struggle to hold as much charge compared to when they were new, ultimately requiring you to plug in more often.

Apple has a tool designed to protect your battery and keep it “healthy” for longer.

It's known as the “80% Limit” and it's there to keep your iPhone battery healthier for longer.

When a battery is fully charged, it is put under stress – and that's not good.

With this feature switched on, your iPhone won't go above 80% charge (except in specific circumstances).

You can find it with three taps by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.

Apple explains, “When you choose 80% Limit, your iPhone will charge up to about 80 percent and then stop charging.

“If the battery charge level gets down to 75 percent, charging will resume until your battery charge level reaches about 80 percent again.”

Apple added, “With 80% Limit enabled, your iPhone will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates.”

But there's a catch: This setting is only available on the following models:

  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro max

Apple notes that not using this feature can “increase wear on your battery and reduce its lifespan.”

And that means you'll suffer worse battery life in the long run – and may have to upgrade your battery or smartphone sooner.

iPhone fans raved over the trick in a Reddit thread, with one saying, “I love this feature!”

Another said, “I’ve been using this feature as well. Hope it actually prolongs the life of my battery as I usually pass my phones down to family members!”

One added, “From an environmental perspective, having a battery last longer is better than one that dies sooner. Less replacements overall, you can’t deny that.”

And another noted, “I’ve always charged to 100% but with iPhone 15 Pro I’m going to give the 80% feature a go. It kinda makes sense in some ways, as like you, I’ve got chargers everywhere, and it doesn’t take long to top up the battery.”

OPTIMIZED!

The other mode you might notice under Battery Health in your iPhone Settings app is Optimized Battery Charging.

This is available on multiple iPhone models – not just the most recent batch.

It's turned on by default when you set up your iPhone.

Apple explains, “When the feature is enabled, your iPhone will delay charging past 80% in certain situations.

“Your iPhone uses on-device machine learning to learn your daily charging routine so that Optimized Battery Charging activates only when your iPhone predicts it will be connected to a charger for an extended period of time.

“The algorithm aims to ensure that your iPhone is still fully charged when unplugged.”

You'll know when Optimized Battery Charging is active because a notification will appear on the Lock Screen.

This notification will reveal when your iPhone is due to be fully charged.

If you want to get it to full charger sooner, you can tap and hold the notification then press Charge Now.

CHECK YOUR IPHONE'S BATTERY USAGE

Here's what you need to do...

You can see a quick overview of your battery level and activity by going to Settings > Battery.

Tap a time period to see your Activity graph for the last 24 hours, or a set number of days.

You can also see a list of apps that contributed to your battery usage.

And it'll display the amount of battery that was used by each individual app.

You can see how long each app was in use on the screen, as well as in the background.

Apple explains that you might see the following usage types:

  • Background Activity means that most of the app's battery usage — such as playing music or tracking location — happened while the app was in the background.
  • No Cell Coverage and Low Signal means that your device was searching for a signal or being used with a low signal.
  • Connected to Charger means the app was used only when your device was charging.

If you're worried about battery life and can't get to a charger right away, consider turning Low Power Mode on to preserve it.

You can find this feature in your battery settings.
