Israel launches first air strike on Beirut since November truce

Published on March 28, 2025 at 06:12 PM

Israel has launched an airstrike on Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, for the first time since a fragile truce between the Israeli army and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah in November halted a war between the two.

Residents fled in panic as a building was brought down in the Hadath neighbourhood on Friday.

Israel carried out four strikes.

Al Jazeera’s Ali Hashem reports, “It is a residential block where many families lived, and many of them watched as Israeli warplanes destroyed it.”;

Surrounding apartments and shops were also damaged in the attack.

The Israeli military claimed the target was a Hezbollah military storage facility for drones.

Israel carried out the attack after rockets were fired from Lebanon towards Israeli territory, the second such incident in the past week.

Hezbollah denied responsibility on both occasions.
