Israeli Security Cabinet votes to dismiss Ronen Bar over rift with Netanyahu

Published on March 21, 2025 at 05:29 AM

The Israeli Security Cabinet on Thursday night, voted to dismiss the Director of the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet), Ronen Bar.

This follows major disagreements and distrust between Bar and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the last few months.

According to Netanyahu, the issues began on October 7.

During Thursday night's meeting, the Security Cabinet decided that Bar would be removed in 30 days or when someone was appointed to the position of ISA Director.

Bar’s removal is expected to spark large-scale protests across Israel.

Over the past three days, demonstrators protesting against the move to sack Ronen Bar have joined forces with protesters angry at the decision to resume fighting in Gaza.

The attacks ended a two-month-old ceasefire, while 59 Israeli hostages remain in the Palestinian enclave.
