The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has confirmed that a 104 percent reciprocal tariff on China has taken effect on Wednesday.
Trump made this confirmation in his speech at a White House event on Wednesday.
According to him, his administration decided to raise tariffs on Chinese items to 104 percent in retaliation for the 100-125 percent tariff China slammed on US goods.
He noted that China and other countries have ripped off the US in the past.
“Right now China is paying a 104% tariff. It sounds ridiculous, but they charged us for many items 100-125%. Many countries have. They’ve ripped us off left and right. But now it’s our turn to do the rippin’g!”; He declared.
Recall that on Tuesday, the White House had confirmed that a 104 percent tariff on Chinese goods would take effect at midnight.
The development comes as China insisted that there is no going back on its 34 percent retaliatory tariff on US imports.
This follows the Trump administration's April 2, 2025, sweeping tariff announcement.
Meanwhile, China had vowed to retaliate against the US's latest tariff imposition on its imports.
