JAMES Bond legend Pierce Brosnan has backed a Brit star for the spy role calling him “impressive”.

Pierce, who stars as Irish gang boss in new Paramount+ drama MobLand, tipped a former co-star to do justice to the iconic role.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson made an impression on Pierce Brosnan

“I think he would make a very fine Bond,” he said of frontrunner Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

“He was actually in one of the movies I made called The Greatest. This young man we cast as The Greatest. He was so impressive then.

“He just had this charisma, he had this presence... so he would be good. But there’s many men on the list I’m sure.”;

Kick-Ass star Aaron, 34, has long been a favourite with bookies for the role and when asked about the speculation, he said: “I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment.”;

The Bond gig comes with a big responsibility and it has defined the career of nearly every man that's played him.

Pierce, 71, is no exception and he has no problem being forever linked to the womanising agent.

He tells The Jonathan Ross Show: “I’m recognised. He’s with me for life [Bond]. It was great. A magical time in my life. It opened a lot of doors and allowed me to go off and form my own company and make my own movies – The Thomas Crown Affair/ The Matador – it gave me access to a whole other world as an actor, employment.”;

Huge stunts are part and parcel of the franchise and Pierce famously drove a speed boat down the Thames in opening scene of The World Is Not Enough.

Discussing the memorable moment, he says:“I was in that boat, yes... on a Monday morning said goodbye to the wife and kids, there’s an oxygen tank here, there’s an oxygen tank there... you’re strapped in double, double.

“They said, ‘If you flip, you’re going to go to the hospital to have your stomach pumped.’ That was memorable.”;

Following Amazon‘s takeover of the franchise, rumours of potential spin-offs are coming thick and fast.

Though he relished being Bond, he's happy to leave it in the past and has no intention of playing an older version of the character.

He says: “No-one’s spoken to me about it. I’ve heard all of the rumours. Listen, they know where to find me. Let’s see where the wind takes us.

“It’s going to be another man’s job. I’m not looking to go there. I’m quite happy with my career. I’ve done it, it was wonderful. Delightful kind of notion to contemplate.”;
