As Christians prepare to mark this year’s Easter celebration, joint security forces have been deployed across Imo State to ensure a hitch-free festival during and after the Easter period.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that the purpose of the joint operation is to maintain peace and order and to forestall any security breaches.
Okoye revealed that the joint security operationâcomprising the Nigeria Police, Military, NSCDC, DSS, FRSC, NDLEA, and local vigilante groupsâhas undertaken a comprehensive security exercise to safeguard the lives and well-being of all residents throughout the festive season.
The police spokesperson added that, as part of the operation, security personnel have been deployed to strategic locations, including churches, worship centres, and major highways, where they will conduct patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-led operations.
He further noted that Police traffic wardens and FRSC have been stationed in key areas to manage traffic flow and ensure the safe movement of travellers during the celebrations.
“All deployed personnel have been tasked to carry out their duties with the highest level of professionalism, respecting human rights and engaging with the public in a respectful and courteous manner,” he stated.
According to Okoye, the Police Commissioner has also emphasised that the sale and use of fireworks, bangers, and knockouts are strictly prohibited, and violators will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
“Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines, 0803 477 3600 and 0814 802 4755,” he further stated.
