Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the Provost of Police Mobile Force 1 (MOPOL) in Kaduna, DSP Aliyu Adejembi, and his team to report to Force Headquarters for questioning.
The directive follows a viral video showing the officers lined up to receive N5,000 cash handouts from a group of Chinese nationals.
Reports said the MOPOL officers were in Lagos on special duty with the Chinese businesspeople when the incident occurred.
The video, which surfaced online on Tuesday, shows uniformed officers queuing to collect moneyâan act that has triggered widespread public criticism and raised concerns about police discipline and professionalism.
A police wireless message dated April 15, 2025, and obtained by AIT.live, confirmed the order. The message stated:
“Professional misconduct x discreditable conduct... respectfully convey INGENPOL directive... release Provost 1 PMF Kaduna to come along with DSP Aliyu Adejembi and team to interview INGENPOL... unfailingly on Wednesday 16/04/2025 at 0900HRS. Treat as very important.”;
The officers ware ordered to appear before the Inspector-General for questioning at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
