Kano gov directs political appointees to declare assets

Published on March 21, 2025 at 06:51 AM

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has directed all political appointees to declare their assets with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to ensure compliance with legal requirements and prevent potential sanctions.

The directive was conveyed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf issued the instruction during an Iftar gathering with heads of government agencies and Special Advisers at the Government House in Kano.

“The management of the Code of Conduct Bureau in Kano has informed me that 60 to 70 percent of state appointees have not yet registered with the agency. They have appealed to me to instruct you to comply in order to avoid the legal consequences of non-declaration, as mandated by the Nigerian Constitution,”; Governor Yusuf stated.

He urged all concerned officials to obtain, complete, and submit the necessary asset declaration forms without delay to uphold transparency and accountability in governance.

During the event, the Governor also expressed dissatisfaction with some Special Advisers who have yet to provide any formal recommendations since their appointment.

“It is preferable for an adviser to send me dozens of memos rather than remain silent for over a year without offering any counsel on governance matters,”; he remarked.

Governor Yusuf emphasized the need for appointees to actively engage in monitoring government activities relevant to their portfolios and to submit periodic reports—whether positive or critical—to enhance governance.
