Kano govt sends high-level team to Edo over Uromi killings

Published on April 10, 2025 at 03:15 PM

A high-level committee set up by Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, departed Kano on Thursday for a mission aimed at investigating the recent killings in Uromi, Edo State.

The delegation, which is focused on fact-finding and promoting peace, is being led by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

According to a statement issued by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, the spokesperson for the Deputy Governor, the committee includes notable individuals such as the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Mohammad Isa Umar, as well as Commissioners for Religious Affairs, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Special Duties, and Women Affairs.

Also part of the team are the Chairman of Bunkure Local Government Area and other senior officials.
The committee was formed following widespread outrage and growing concerns over the violent attacks in Uromi, which resulted in numerous deaths and displaced many residents, including some from Kano State who live in the area.

Speaking at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport before the committee’s departure, Deputy Governor Gwarzo reaffirmed the group’s commitment to seeking justice, fostering peace, and promoting reconciliation.

“Our mission is clear: to investigate, consult, and recommend lasting solutions. This is not merely a fact-finding trip, but a peace-building initiative designed to restore confidence and prevent further violence,”; Gwarzo said.

The tragic incident that occurred last month has significantly raised tensions in the region. During its week-long visit, the committee is expected to meet with Edo State’s Governor, security agency leaders, traditional rulers, and civil society groups as part of its efforts.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Northern Governors Forum to show solidarity, encourage national unity, and take proactive steps against the rising insecurity across the country.

Further updates will be shared as the committee continues its work in Edo State.
