Kano police arrest 33 suspected thugs in intelligence-led clearance operations

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 33 suspected thugs (popularly known as Yan Daba) during a series of intelligence-led clearance operations carried out across flashpoints in Kano metropolis between April 23 and April 28, 2025.

The operations, conducted by the Command’s Tactical Teams under the directives and direct supervision of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, were led by the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Daba Team, CSP Bashir Musa Gwadabe.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were apprehended with dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, and stolen property.

They are being charged with offences including armed robbery, possession of dangerous weapons, and illicit drug trafficking.

The statement emphasized that the operations were part of efforts to enforce the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, aimed at ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all residents.

“The Kano State Police Command remains committed to maintaining peace and security by conducting round-the-clock visibility patrols, intelligence-led raids, evidence-based investigations, and enhanced community policing activities,”; the statement read.

CP Bakori expressed appreciation to the public for their continued support and urged citizens to sustain their collaboration with the police by providing actionable information that could assist in combating crime.

The Command also reiterated its dedication to protecting lives and property, assuring residents of its unwavering resolve to maintain law and order across the state.
