Kano Police uncover gun smuggling network, recover arms, ammunition, drugs

The Police in Kano have uncovered a locally fabricated gun-smuggling network in the state, recovering 19 dangerous rifles, 114 live cartridges and 6 expended cartridges.

While displaying the recovered arms and ammunition at the Command's Headquarters on Wednesday, the State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori said over the past four weeks, the Command had embarked on intelligence-led joint operations, round-the-clock visibility patrols and initiated strategic partnerships with community members.

He noted that the proactive steps led to the dismantling of the criminal network specialized in smuggling firearms into the state.

Also recovered according to the Commissioner were suspected tramadol tablets worth one hundred and fifty million naira, N150,000,000:00.

Bakori explained that from 17th of March 2025 to date, a total of one hundred and fifty-seven, 157, suspects involved in armed robbery, thuggery (Fadan Daba), theft, illicit drug dealings and other violent crimes were arrested with recovery.

He said twenty-four armed robbery suspects, fourteen suspected drug dealers, seven suspected motor vehicle thieves, five motorcycle thieves, twenty-eight suspected thieves and seventy-nine thugs were arrested within the period under review.

“We made the recovery of two (2) English pistols, nineteen (19) fabricated revolver rifles and one fabricated pistol, one hundred and seventeen (117) live cartridges, Six (6) expanded cartridges and Eleven (11) live ammunition, Two (2) motor vehicles and two (2) tricycles, Three (3) motorcycles”

”Other items recovered, according to the Commissioner include Consignments of tramadol tablets worth (N150,000,000:00), Six (6) cartons of Ampicillin Tablets, Twenty-two (22) bottles of suck & die and Sixty-nine (69) sachets and Two hundred and sixty (260) pieces of exol tablets.

Others are Fifty-seven (57) cutlasses, Seventy-one (71) sharp knives, Fifteen (15) sharp irons (Dan Bida), Seven (7) scissors, Two (2) axes and one bow, etc.

He noted that to ensure peace in the state, the command plans to conduct a series of community-based engagements and intelligence-led operations at strategic locations to prevent crimes and maintain law and order.
